    Obituary: Andrea “Carol” Willborn

    Andrea “Carol” Willborn, age 82, of Monroe, WI, died Friday, February 9th, 2025, at Sylvan Crossings at Westshire assisted living facility, Waunakee. Carol was born on January 17, 1942, at Overlook hospital in Summit, New Jersey, the daughter of Andrew and Clair (Adams) Ericksen. She graduated from Monroe, WI High School in 1960. She is survived by two sons, Duane (Lynda Smith) Willborn of Port Washington, WI, Glenn Willborn of Monroe, WI.; Two Grandchildren, Lindzy (Jason Rabus) Willborn of Port Washington, WI, and Eric Willborn of Waubeka, WI. She is further survived by two sisters, Lynn Jonas of Bruce, WI, Nola Grinnell of Albany, WI and a brother Andrew Ericksen of Monroe, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents.

    As a child, she always showed a lot of interest in animals as she loved to care for them. She particularly loved Siamese cats and for many years was a breeder and showed champion pure bread Siamese. She loved seeing her grandchildren and they loved to see her. During the summers she loved to garden and spruce up the yard.

    “We know that we can’t have you but we’re happy knowing that the angels have finally got you back. Goodbye to a wonderful woman and a beautiful mother.”

    Obituary: Ellen M. Broge

    Ellen M. Broge, age 68, of Monroe, died on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at Encompass Health Hospital in Fitchburg, WI, following complications from heart surgery. Ellen was born on July 25, 1956 in Joliet, IL, the daughter of Walter and Iona (Maltby) Corp. She graduated from Orangeville High School in 1974. Ellen was employed as a Claim Clerk at Wal-Mart for over 30 years until retiring in 2019. She was united in marriage to Marvin C. Broge on April 20, 2013.  She enjoyed many outdoor activities including cook outs, fishing, camping, gardening, and in her younger years, playing volleyball. She bowled to support Big Brothers/Big Sisters and loved spending time with her grandchildren and visiting childhood friends and family. 

    Ellen is survived by her husband, Marvin Broge; Children, Cassie Segner, Andrea (Dave) Rawson, all of Monroe, Ben Broge of Janesville, Melissa Tadisch (Craig) of Green Bay; eight grandchildren, Natalee, Chesney, Jordan, Ryan, Kylee, Brayden, Liam, and Finn; and a sister, Jackie Spencer of Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, LeRoy and Allen Corp; mother and father-in-law, Lillian Phillips and Clifford Broge; and sisters-in-law, Wanda Wiegel and Rita Hanson. 

    Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe, with Pastor Mary Gafner officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Monroe Moose Lodge. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday, February 21, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund will be established in Ellen’s name.     Obituary: James L. Munro

    James L. Munro, age 86, of Monroe, died on Sunday, February 16, 2025 at SSM Monroe Hospice Home. Jim was born on July 14, 1938 in San Francisco, CA, the son of Colin and Shirley (Kerr) Munro. He graduated from Superior Central High School in 1956, earned a degree in chemistry and physics from Superior State College and attained his master’s degree in 1962. He was united in marriage to Judith A. Vriesacker on December 29, 1962 in Superior. Jim started in school administration at the age of 25 in Sparta, WI. He was employed for 15 years as school superintendent in Bloomer, WI before moving to Monroe in 1983. He retired as Monroe School District Superintendent in 1997. 

    Jim was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Monroe, was a Kiwanis Club member for over 50 years, served on the WIAA Board of Control, Blackhawk Technical College board, and was District Chairman of Blackhawk Area Council of Boy Scouts of America for several years. Most importantly he was devoted to his wife, dedicated to his family, and believed in giving back to the community.

    He is survived by a daughter, Sarah (Alan) Bennett; granddaughter, Devri Bennett, all of Monroe; a sister, Sara (George) Downs of Southern Pines, NC; and a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Droegemueller Munro of Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Judith, on March 11, 2024; a son, Thomas C. Munro; and two brothers, Michael and David Duncan Munro.

    Memorial services will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Grace Lutheran Church, Monroe, with Pastor John Tabaka officiating. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 9:30 a.m. Inurnment will be a later date in Greenwood Cemetery in Superior. Memorials are suggested in Jim’s name to United Way of Green County.     Obituary: Burleigh A. Bartlett

    Burleigh A. Bartlett, husband, father, grandfather, and farmer, age 92 of Monroe, let the cows out to pasture for the last time on February 8, 2025, at SSM Monroe Hospital. Burleigh was born on December 31, 1932 in Monroe, the son of Arthur and Vera (Drake) Bartlett.

    Burleigh graduated from Monroe High School in 1950 and attended the U.W. farm short course where he may or may not have been involved in shenanigans involving livestock let loose in the dorm. He lived on the Bartlett family dairy farm his entire life. The daily farming routine was firmly entrenched. After the animals were sold, Burleigh went to the barn every morning at 6:30 to feed the cats.

    He reluctantly agreed to go on a date that later resulted in marriage to Lorraine Vigdahl on October 11, 1958 at the Orfordville Lutheran Church.

    Burleigh was a long time member of the Monroe United Methodist Church where he served on various committees. He was a member of the State and National Holstein Associations, the Clarno Township Smart Growth Committee, and served as Bethel Hawthorne Cemetery sexton for many years. He enjoyed bowling in several leagues and competed in many city and state bowling tournaments. He was an avid reader of history and anything that involved trains and he never stopped reading the farm papers and magazines. Above all, Burleigh loved spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. 

    He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lorraine Bartlett of Monroe; three sons, James (Ann) of Middleton, Daniel (Sara Pfannkuche) of Champaign, IL, John (Amy) of Monroe; three grandchildren, Alex (Laura Sandry), Ryan (Jane Brayko), Audrey; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. 

    Visitation is scheduled for Thursday February 13, 2025 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe. Services will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Jeffrey Meyer officiating. Interment will be in Bethel Hawthorne Cemetery, Clarno Township, followed by a luncheon at the Monroe American Legion, 1627 12th Avenue. A memorial fund will be established in Burleigh’s name.     Obituary: Gloria S. Huffman

    Gloria S. Huffman, age 87, of Monroe, WI, died Friday, February 7, 2025 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. Gloria was born on February 27, 1937 in Clinton, Indiana, the daughter of Thomas and Mabel (Pratt) Smith. She graduated from Clinton, IN High School in 1955, attended Indiana Business College in Terre Haute, IN, and Lakeland College in Mattoon, IL.   She was united in marriage to Earl E. Huffman on June 21, 1958 in Clinton. Gloria was employed in food service at Eastern Illinois University Charleston, IL for 21 years. Gloria and Earl lived in Oakland, IL for many years before moving to Monroe in 2003. She was a long time resident of the Twining Valley Retirement community. Gloria was a member of Monroe Bible Church where she led the kitchen ministry for several years. 

    She is survived by two sons, Tim (Nancy) Huffman of Hollandale, WI, Mark (Jill) Huffman of Bluffton, S.C.; four grandchildren, Nicholas (Jenessa), Hannah, Connor (Sarah), and Carson Huffman. She is further survived by a sister, Dorothy Kaiser of Centralia, MO; a nephew, Gilbert (Sandy) Kaiser; and two nieces, Karen Davis and Francis Busby. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl, in 2013; a brother, Wayne Smith; and brother-in-law, Ernest Kaiser. 

    Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at the Monroe Bible Church with Pastor Dan Krahenbuhl officiating. Visitation will precede the service at the church beginning at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be in Middlebury Cemetery, Barneveld, WI at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in Gloria’s name to Monroe Bible Church or Shriner Children’s Hospital.
