    Obituary: Cheryl L. Johnson

    Cheryl L. Johnson, age 65, of Juda, died unexpectedly on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at SSM Monroe Hospital. Cheri was born on January 30, 1959 in Portage, WI, the daughter of Stephen and Virginia (Halvorson) Eldred. She graduated from Brodhead High School in 1977 and was united in marriage to Roger Johnson on May 6, 1978 in Brodhead. Cheri enjoyed  bowling in leagues at Leisure Lanes and golfing leagues at Windy Acres. She was an avid reader, great cook, and loved to fish with her family especially at Avon Bottoms. Cheri always looked forward to the annual family camping trip to Devil’s Lake State Park and the winter trips to Florida with Roger. Her passion for family was evident as she helped run the family dairy farm in rural Juda. 

    She will be dearly missed by her husband of 46 years, Roger Johnson of Juda; her children, Greg Johnson of Brodhead, Amy Johnson (Matthew Wendelschafer) of Brodhead, Aaron Johnson of Juda; eight grandchildren, Grace, Casey, Evan, Lilly, Henry, Ava, Rori, and Emma; daughter-in-law, Kari Johnson of Juda; brother, Randy Eldred of Brodhead; two sisters, Debora Burkheimer of Beloit, Barb (Brian) Fish of Burlington; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; father and mother-in-law, Arnold and Joan Johnson; and three brothers, Steve, Gary, and David Eldred.

    A celebration of Cheri’s life will be held at a later date. A memorial fund will be established in her name. The NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe, is assisting the family. Condolences may be shared at www.newcomerfuneralhome.net 

  • Obituary: Vickie J. Novak

    Vickie J. Novak, age 70, of Argyle, died on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at SSM Monroe Hospital. Vickie was born on June 13, 1954 in Harvard, IL, the daughter of Harry and Betty (Lantis) Novak. She graduated from Harvard High School and has been a resident of Argyle for many years. She was employed as a cashier at the Argyle Petro Mart for the last 20 years. Vickie enjoyed gardening, baking, and was an avid Chicago Bears fan. She loved her pet Pomeranian, Honey.

    Vickie will be dearly missed by her long time significant other, John Schaid of Argyle; daughter, Jessica (Tim) Ryan; grandchildren, Teagan, Desyrae, and Ellie; siblings, Richard (Debbie) Novak, Gary Novak, Bonnie (James) Reese, Kathy (Ken) Dallmann, Holly DeJohn; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother-in-law, John DeJohn.

    A celebration of Vickie’s life will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., at W9305 Lewis Road, Argyle. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, is assisting the family. Condolences may be shared at www.newcomerfuneralhome.net

    The following events occurred on January 24, 2025:

    All persons arrested or cited are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

    MVC – Personal Injury:
    At 8:29 AM, Deputies responded to the W9400 block of White Oak Road, in the Town of Adams, for a two-vehicle crash. Harlan A. Flannery, 65 of Argyle, was traveling eastbound when he reportedly could not see out his windshield. Flannery’s vehicle then collided with a westbound vehicle operated by Cheryl L. Vonarx, 62 of Argyle. 

    Flannery reported wearing his seatbelt and was uninjured.  There was no airbag deployment. Flannery’s vehicle sustained functional damage and was driven from the scene. Vonarx reported wearing her seatbelt but sustained minor injuries.  There was no airbag deployment. Vonarx’s vehicle sustained functional damage and was driven from the scene.

    Probation Violation/Arrest:
    At 10:07 AM, Deputies responded to the Probation & Parole office, 2841 6th St, to take custody of Adrian M. Heydn, 32, of Brodhead, for a violation.  Haydn was transported to the Green County Jail and was turned over to the jail staff.

    Update – Town of Jordan – Motor Vehicle Crash Fatality – January 17, 2025

    The following is an update of Town of Jordan – Motor Vehicle Crash Fatality – January 17, 2025.

    The driver of the eastbound car was identified as Rita Buchholz 71, of Benton.  The passenger of the eastbound car was identified as Mckenzi Gabel, 33, of Mineral Point.  Gabel was pronounced deceased at UW-Hospital.  The 16 year old male from Monroe that was driving the westbound car was cited by deputies following the crash. Citations were issued for failure to yield while making a left turn and inattentive driving.   The 16 year old was released with a non-mandatory court appearance.  

    The crash remains under investigation at this time.

    The following events occurred on January 21, 2025:

    All persons arrested or cited are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

    MVC – Personal Injury:
    At 11:24 AM, deputies along with Browntown FD and Green County EMS responded to a two vehicle crash with possible injuries in the N2300 block of Ullom Road, in the Town of Cadiz.  Elijah D West, 20, Browntown, was stopped on the roadway when a northbound vehicle operated by Laura J Zeal, 68, Juda, collided with the stopped vehicle.  Zeal reported wearing her seatbelt and was uninjured.  Her vehicle had multiple airbag deployments.  Zeal’s passenger, Debra J Smothers, 69, Janesville, reported wearing her seatbelt and suffered suspected minor injuries.  Zeal’s vehicle sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene.

    West also reported wearing his seatbelt and was uninjured.  There was no airbag deployment. West’s vehicle sustained functional damage and was driven from the scene.  West was cited for Improper Parking/Standing of Vehicle, and was released pending a non-mandatory court date.

    OWI:
    At 11:52 PM, deputies stopped a vehicle for a defective headlamp in the W3200 block of CTH C, Town of Albany.  Bryce P Eichelkraut, 24, Monticello, was arrested for OWI 1st Offense – Alcohol.  He was cited for OWI 1st and Operating a Motor Vehicle w/Defective Headlamp, and was released to a responsible party pending a court appearance.
