    Green County Sheriff’s Office – 1/18/2025

    The following events occurred on January 18, 2025:

    All person’s arrested or cited are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

    Alcohol Offense
    At 2:08 AM, Deputies, along with New Glarus PD, New Glarus EMS, and New Glarus FD responded to the N7600 block of CTH J, in the Town of York, for a reported single vehicle crash with unknown injuries.  The investigation found that Karmin L. Biller, 18, of Pecatonica, was traveling southbound when she failed to negotiate a curve.  Biller then entered the east ditch, where the vehicle overturned and then came to a rest in a field.  Biller reported that she was wearing her seatbelt and was uninjured.   Biller’s vehicle sustained disabling damage, with airbag deployment, and was towed from the scene.  The investigation resulted in Biller being placed under arrest for an Absolute Sobriety Violation and cited for Inattentive Driving.  Biller was later released pending court. 

    Motor Vehicle Crash – Personal Injury
    At 3:51 PM, Deputies, along with New Glarus PD, New Glarus EMS, and New Glarus FD responded to the N8000 block of STH 69, in the Town of New Glarus, for a reported two vehicle crash with injuries.  The investigation found that a vehicle operated by Caleb J. Murphy, 19, of Wisconsin Dells was traveling north on STH 69 and began slowing down to turn.  A vehicle being operated by Lindsay N. Siflinger, 27, of Elkhart Lake, behind Murphy, did not see Murphy slowing down and collided with the rear of Murphy’s vehicle.  

    Murphy advised he was uninjured and wearing his seatbelt.  Murphy’s passenger, Brian J. Murphy, 56, of Wisconsin Dells, also advised he was wearing his seatbelt and was later transported to the hospital by New Glarus EMS.  Siflinger advised she was wearing her seatbelt and was uninjured.  Both vehicles involved sustained disabling damage, with no airbag deployment, and were towed from the scene.  The investigation resulted in Siflinger being cited for Failure to Maintain Control and was released pending court.

  • Town of Jordan – Motor Vehicle Crash Fatality – January 17, 2025

    Town of Jordan – Motor Vehicle Crash Fatality – January 17, 2025

    On Friday, January 17 at 12:45 PM the Sheriff’s Office Communication Center received a 911 call reporting a two vehicle crash in the W7800 block of State Hwy 81 in the Town of Jordan.  The crash location is approximately 7.5 miles northwest of Monroe. Deputies immediately responded to the scene along with Browntown Fire Department, Monroe Rural Fire Department and Green County EMS.  

    Preliminary investigation determined that a westbound sport utility vehicle operated by a 16 year old male from Monroe, failed to yield while making a left turn into a driveway, operating in the path of an eastbound car.  The eastbound car was operated by a 71 year old female of Benton.  A passenger in the car was identified as a 33 year old female of Mineral Point.   All vehicle occupants were transported to SSM – Monroe Emergency Department for injuries sustained in the crash.  The 33 year old passenger was flown by UW-Med Flight from SSM to UW Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.  The 16 year old male and 71 year old female sustained non-life threatening injuries. 

    The passenger car sustained severe front end damage, the airbags did deploy and both occupants were wearing seatbelts.  The SUV sustained severe passenger side damage, the airbags did deploy and the occupant was wearing his seatbelt.  State Hwy 81 was closed for approximately 1 ½ hours during the investigation.

    Names of those involved are being withheld at this time.  This is Green County’s first traffic fatality for 2025.  

    Our thoughts and prayers are with the family as they deal with the loss of a loved one.

    The following events occurred on January 17, 2025:

    Motor Vehicle Crash – Personal Injury
    At 6:26 PM, Deputies, along with Brodhead PD, Brodhead EMS, and Brodhead FD responded to the N600 block of CTH T, in the Town of Spring Grove, for a reported single vehicle crash with injury.  The investigation found that Tricia M. Hammermeister, 36, of Brodhead, was traveling northbound, when she failed to negotiate a right curve then entered the north ditch, where she struck an embankment.  Hammermeister was wearing her seatbelt and was later transported to the Hospital with suspected non-life-threatening injury.  The vehicle sustained disabling damage to the front end, with airbag deployment, and was towed from the scene.

    The following events occurred on January 16, 2025:

    All persons arrested or cited are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

    Disorderly Conduct:
    At 1:26 PM, Deputies responded to the W9700 block of STH 11, Town of Cadiz, for a report of an altercation in a vehicle.  Maxwell Wayne Tynan, 33, Warren, IL, was arrested for DC and taken to the Green County Jail.  He posted bond, and was released pending a court date.  Lafayette County Sheriff, Shullsburg Police, and Benton Police assisted at the scene.

  • Obituary: Chester W. “Chet” Wyss

    Obituary: Chester W. “Chet” Wyss

    Chester W. “Chet” Wyss, age 99, of Monroe, died on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Aster Assisted Living in Monroe. Chet was born on April 9, 1925 in Monroe, the son of Walter E. and Kathryn (Grimm) Wyss. He attended Iliff Rural School and Monroe High School. Chet was united in marriage to Alice M. Signer on February 15, 1947 at St. John’s Church in Monroe. The couple farmed in Monroe for several years before moving to their farm in Rock City, IL, in 1954.  They moved back to Monroe in 2014. 

    As a young man, Chet was always building balsam wood planes. After obtaining his pilot’s license in 1946, Chet and Alice traveled all over the United States and Canada. He and his wife were active members of the International, Illinois, and Wisconsin Flying Farmer Chapters since 1960 with Chet named “Man of the Year” of the WI chapter. He last flew his plane at age 89. He was a member of St. Paul Church of Epleyanna, Davis, IL, and other than flying, Chet enjoyed golfing, fishing, and hunting.

    He will be dearly missed by his two daughters, Sharon “Sherry” Regez (Gary Hanson) of Browntown, Annie (Dave) Silaggi of Galena, IL; daughter-in-law, Sue Wyss of Monroe; four grandchildren, Brad Phillips, Kim Ozee (Scot Shadle), Erika Waterman, Dana (David) Herrick; seven greatgrandchildren, Trinity, Skylar, Hope, Falyn, Lilly, Hannah, Harper; eight great greatgrandchildren; sisters-in-law, Janice Wyss, Marian Kundert; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice, in 2021; son, Curt W. Wyss, in 2016; great-greatgranddaughter, Brynnle; and brothers, Carl, Delbert, Dan, and Roy.

    Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Paul Church of Epleyanna, Davis, IL, with Pastor Scott Naevestad officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Paul Church Cemetery. Visitation will preceded the service on Tuesday, Jan. 21st, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Memorials are suggested in Chets’ name to St. Paul Church, Aster Assisted Living, or St. Croix Hospice.
