    Obituary: Chester W. “Chet” Wyss

    Chester W. “Chet” Wyss, age 99, of Monroe, died on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Aster Assisted Living in Monroe. Chet was born on April 9, 1925 in Monroe, the son of Walter E. and Kathryn (Grimm) Wyss. He attended Iliff Rural School and Monroe High School. Chet was united in marriage to Alice M. Signer on February 15, 1947 at St. John’s Church in Monroe. The couple farmed in Monroe for several years before moving to their farm in Rock City, IL, in 1954.  They moved back to Monroe in 2014. 

    As a young man, Chet was always building balsam wood planes. After obtaining his pilot’s license in 1946, Chet and Alice traveled all over the United States and Canada. He and his wife were active members of the International, Illinois, and Wisconsin Flying Farmer Chapters since 1960 with Chet named “Man of the Year” of the WI chapter. He last flew his plane at age 89. He was a member of St. Paul Church of Epleyanna, Davis, IL, and other than flying, Chet enjoyed golfing, fishing, and hunting.

    He will be dearly missed by his two daughters, Sharon “Sherry” Regez (Gary Hanson) of Browntown, Annie (Dave) Silaggi of Galena, IL; daughter-in-law, Sue Wyss of Monroe; four grandchildren, Brad Phillips, Kim Ozee (Scot Shadle), Erika Waterman, Dana (David) Herrick; seven greatgrandchildren, Trinity, Skylar, Hope, Falyn, Lilly, Hannah, Harper; eight great greatgrandchildren; sisters-in-law, Janice Wyss, Marian Kundert; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice, in 2021; son, Curt W. Wyss, in 2016; great-greatgranddaughter, Brynnle; and brothers, Carl, Delbert, Dan, and Roy.

    Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Paul Church of Epleyanna, Davis, IL, with Pastor Scott Naevestad officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Paul Church Cemetery. Visitation will preceded the service on Tuesday, Jan. 21st, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Memorials are suggested in Chets’ name to St. Paul Church, Aster Assisted Living, or St. Croix Hospice.     Obituary: Brett J. Sigafus

    Brett J. Sigafus, age 61, of Browntown, passed peacefully into God’s loving arms on Sunday, January 12, 2025 at Monroe Health Services. Brett was born on July 21, 1963 in Monroe, the son of John and Rita (Rockow) Sigafus. He had a wonderful time growing up in Browntown with many neighborhood buddies to get into mischief. He was a 1981 graduate of Monroe High School and a member of Peace Church in Browntown. 

    Brett had an incredibly funny sense of humor and had a way of making anyone laugh. He loved driving semi and playing guitar.

    He is survived by his loving mother, Rita Sigafus; sons, Isaac Sigafus, Jake Heins, Jeremy Heins, and their mother, Denise Baker; and two grandsons, Jaxon and Raylan Heins. He was preceded in death by his father, John; and brother, Perry. 

    A private family graveside service will be held in Union Cemetery, South Wayne, at a later date. A memorial fund will be established in Brett’s name. Condolences may be shared at www.newcomerfuneralhome.net

    Obituary: Tamara R. “Tammy” Miller

    Tamara R. “Tammy” Miller, age 57, of New Glarus, died on Saturday, January 4, 2025 in Hospice care at St. Mary’s Hospital, Madison. Tammy was born on May 5, 1967 in Monroe, the daughter of Dave and Rose (Mau) Rundle. Tammy was a 1985 graduate of Monroe High School before earning a degree in insurance sales.  She married Kenneth Johnson in 1990 and was united  in marriage to Ted Miller on October 24, 2015. She worked as an independent insurance agent for many years before retiring in 2008. Most recently she enjoyed eBay marketing and sales. Tammy had the gift of gab and always enjoyed meeting new people and keeping up with old friends. She also had a passion for music, cooking, gardening, tending to her flowers, family cookouts, and her animals. Tammy was eager to meet her new grandchild due in June. 

    She will be missed by her husband, Ted Miller of New Glarus; sons, Tyler Johnson (Laura) of Edgerton, Dylan Johnson (Meghan) of Verona; step-daughter, Ashlee (Jake) DeHaven of Madison and their daughter, Melody; mother, Rose Rundle of Monroe; and two brothers, Tim (Dianne) Rundle of Brodhead, Troy (Teresa) Rundle of Monroe;  and nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her father in 1986.

    Private family services will be held on Monday, January 13, 2025 at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe. Interment will follow Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. A memorial fund will be established in Tammy’s name. Condolences may be shared at www.newcomerfuneralhome.net 

  • Obituary: Lucille M (Friedly) Brooks

    Obituary: Lucille M (Friedly) Brooks

    Lucille M Brooks, 98, passed away peacefully January 03, 2025, at Monroe Clinic Hospice Home with family members by her side.

    Lucille was born on the family farm December 12, 1926 to the daughter of Carl and Margaret Friedly. Coming from a family of 5 sisters and 4 brothers; Lucille learned all about the importance of family which she taught to her immediate family. 

    Lucille went to Shanghai School in Brodhead until the 8th grade. After her graduation she worked at Freeman Shoes in Brodhead for a few years until she met the love of her life, Kenneth Brooks; they united in marriage at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Monroe on February 16, 1952. 

    Kenneth and Lucille farmed for over 50 years. Farming was her passion along with baking and spending time with family. Lucille always supplied the homemade cinnamon rolls and dinner rolls for family gatherings. She also enjoyed her bowling league. Lucille was a member of Clarno United Methodist Church. 

    Lucille was a feisty, hardworking woman but always had time to share her love and spending time with her family gave her the most joy. 

    Lucille is survived by: Judy (Daryl) Meighan; Jerry (Alice) Brooks; Laura (Terry) Hughes. Grandchildren: Mike (Kamille) Landen; Angie Meighan; Jeremy (Michele) Meighan; Cory Brooks; Kyle Knoll; Carissa (Fiancé Mike Witte) Brooks; Jessica (Martin Jr.) Akins; Ryan (Emily) Hughes. Seventeen Great Grandchildren and one Great-Great Grandchild with two others on the way. Lucille is also survived by her brothers: Fritz Friedly and Ralph Friedly; Sisters: Bertha Chestnut, Helen Brooks and Beverly Klopfenstein.  Preceded in death by: Husband Kenneth Brooks; Her Mother and Father; Daughter Barbara Landen; Brothers: Walter Friedly and Robert Friedly; Sisters: Margaret LeBeau and Janet Zettle. 

    Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 10, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe, with Rev. JoAnn Meyer officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday, January 9, from 3:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. A Memorial fund will be established in Lucille’s name.  Condolences may be shared at www.newcomerfuneralhome.net

    Obituary: Michael J. Brandenburg 

    Michael J. Brandenburg, age 58, of Monroe, died peacefully at home on Thursday, January 2, 2025. Mike was born on January 29, 1966 in Monroe, the son of Delivyn and Phoebe (Abraham) Brandenburg. He graduated from Wausau East High School and has worked for many years at Greenco Industries in Monroe. Mike enjoyed fishing, John Wayne movies, driving his truck, going out to breakfast, and the occasional trip to the casino. Above all, Mike cherished visits from his family and the time they shared. 

    He is survived by his siblings, Laura Young, David (Mary) Brandenburg, Ann (Harry) Sokel, Becky (Steve) Pink, Kathryn (Jon) Neff, John (Lisa) Brandenburg, Dan (Cindy) Brandenburg; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother in 2011, and his father in 2014. 

    A celebration of Michael’s life will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. A private family burial will be held at a later date in Staver St. Peters United Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Greenco Industries in Mike’s name. Condolences may be shared at newcomerfuneralhome.net
